Yes this is very exciting. The proofreading is about two thirds complete. Then onto the next step of fixing things that are wrong. Another proofreading, and then to an editor. I hope very very soon I can announce an official release date (which will include waiting for all the sales avenues to actually be live with the sales of the book). I intend at this time to make it available in both print and eBook editions.

Hi Lee, Lovely cover. Just fyi, as an editor for 20 plus years, mostly textbooks for the first half of those and then anything fun for the second half, I'm really puzzled by the terms that writers are tossing around regarding proofreading and editing. Accurately speaking, you write, a developmental editor helps your story, if you need one, then when you're finished with your awesome manuscript, a copy editor goes over it, line by line. Then it is done. It is "printed" or put into final format, in the case of digital versions. At that point, and only at that point, does a proofreader read the page proofs to make sure they match the final copy edited version. There can be no proofreading done before there are final proofs. So I'm thinking terms are being used incorrectly. Maybe you mean you have a beta reader reading your raw manuscript. Anyway, if you ever need an editing services, feel free to contact me. See, I didn't copy edit my own message. Should be "If you ever need any editing services, . . ." That's why I never try to copy edit my own manuscripts, only other people's.

ReplyDeleteIn this case I used proofreading to refer to my wife reading the raw manuscript for basic grammar and spelling. She doesn't have editing experience, so I felt I couldn't really say what she is doing is editing. I compare it to having someone proofread a resume before letting go out into the jungle (figuratively speaking of course). I know terms get misused all the time, and I am party to misusing terms (sometimes even by accident).
